Pity …
I’m preparing my list of Canadian must-haves for Daddy Bravo’s holiday visit. Although I love living in a foreign country there are a few items no Canadian should live without. In my case it’s maple syrup, cheddar cheese, marshmallows (still craving Rice Krispie squares) and Red Rose tea *. For my girlfriend in Germany it’s Kraft Dinner, stain remover and twist ties. Yes, that’s right. Twist ties.
This week’s chick<8000clicks>chick theme was “I am Canadian.” I’m counting tea bags on the left while djbeat is proudly sporting her maple leaf on the right.
* For anyone who grew up in Canada you must remember those ugly figurines. An original Canadian series sold for more than $100,000! Damn, if only I had treasured that weird looking squirrel and the sad rabbit with no discernible ears …
.
PS: Obrigada to Web-Betty, Stinkypaw, daisyfae, DaddyP and surftwin for their comments on The Winter Collection. And muito muito obrigada for all the support, purchases and hearts at tangonovemberbravo!

I so remembered those figurines, I had a bunch of them, who knew! Hope your dad brings you what you’re craving if not let me know, I’ll ship you some (seriously!)
Aw thanks Stinkypaw! Thankfully Daddy Bravo is not flying with RyanAir so luggage restrictions won’t be a problem! I wonder how many marshmallows you can fit into a suitcase …?
weird what constitutes ‘home’. preparing a package for a friend who recently relocated to germany, and finding just the right things is a scavenger hunt! but it’s fun!
It’s all about comfort food, I guess. Of course I probably never bought these things when I actually lived in Canada …
Don’t tell me all that cheddar we trucked in has already been eaten. [Although I might remember having a bite or two myself.]
The Wade figurines were started in Stoke on Trent in the UK in the early 1800’s, and are highly collectable in the UK as well. We chucked out a few my grandmother had; they were pretty ugly, and maybe putting them in with tea didn’t help the image!
Heavens, no! The cheddar is safely tucked away for future cheese on toast cravings.
After reviewing the Red Rose web site I see those Wade figurines are still being produced! And uglier than ever … (ooops, I’ve probably offended someone now)
i love it … and so true
recent tip i’m dying to try out … bacon cooked in maple syrup … has great potential especially with a root veggie and the upcoming holiday season. now if only there were pubs in canada ….
What a coincidence! I was just debating the merits of maple syrup and bacon with DaddyP and KPX a few weeks ago, they didn’t seem convinced.
Look at you talking about root veggies …
When are you flying back??? x
in paris at the minute for a few days – lovely – lots of chocolate …
and then home on tuesday … going to be quite the adjustment i expect …
Enjoy Paris, all the chocolate and your last few days of being on this side of the Atlantic. Hope to see you in 2010! xx
My goodness your diet is terrible …….
Yes, not quite as bad as popcorn and wine but I’m sure Rice Krispie squares meet at least 11 nutritional guidelines.
I happen to know that your cooking is delightful ……. in many ways …….
